Thwaite Brow Woods
Discover Thwaite Brow Woods — a community woodland shaped by nature, history and the people of Bolton-le-Sands. Explore its wildlife, uncover its past and find out how we're caring for the woods for future generations.
A woodland with a story to tell
Sitting above Bolton-le-Sands and the Lancaster Canal, Thwaite Brow Woods is a place where nature, history and community come together.
From ancient common land and the arrival of the canal to industry, recreation and today’s community woodland, people have been shaping and enjoying this landscape for centuries.
Today, Bolton-le-Sands Parish Council and the Thwaite Brow Woods Conservation Project are working together to care for the woodland, protect its wildlife and history, and help more people discover everything it has to offer.
A new chapter for Thwaite Brow
We’re working on a programme of improvements across the woods — from better paths, woodland management and new places to stop and enjoy the view, to a completely new interpretation scheme exploring Thwaite Brow’s history, trees and wildlife.
Much of this work is made possible through local volunteers, community support and external funding. Our aim is simple: to care for what makes Thwaite Brow special while making it an even better place for everyone to enjoy.
