Our Playing Field is a spacious, well-maintained green space located in the heart of our village. This beautifully kept field is the ideal spot for a range of activities, from organised sports to relaxed outdoor fun. With its neatly trimmed grass and clearly marked football pitch, the field is regularly used for local matches and training sessions by Hest Bank United and Halton Juniors FC.

Whether you’re a sports enthusiast looking to join in a game or a family seeking a peaceful space to enjoy the outdoors, the playing field offers something for everyone. Nestled within a scenic environment and close to village amenities, it’s the perfect gathering place for both residents and visitors to enjoy fresh air and recreation.

The Bolton-le-Sands Community Playground is a vibrant outdoor space nestled within our beautiful village park. This well-loved playground offers a fantastic range of equipment for children of all ages to enjoy.

The brightly colored climbing frame with a fun ramp and sturdy rails invites energetic play, while the natural wooden obstacle course encourages little adventurers to test their balance and coordination. With swings nearby and plenty of open grassy areas, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Surrounded by lush greenery and with seating areas for parents and guardians to relax, it’s the perfect spot for families to spend time together, whether you’re a local resident or a visitor exploring our village. Come and enjoy this safe, engaging, and family-friendly environment!

Built in 2000 with funding from the National Lottery and several public and private organisations. Currently used by the Bolton-le-Sands Tennis Club and two local Football teams — Hest Bank United and Halton Juniors FC. For more information please see the Community Groups page.

This fantastic addition to our village was made possible thanks to Table Tennis England’s ‘Ping in the Community‘ scheme, which offers subsidised table tennis packages designed to kick-start an interest in table tennis in the community. The cost was met with a grant awarded from the Parish Champion Grants scheme and the Parish Council.

The table is situated on a durable concrete base, ensuring it is ready for play in all seasons. We encourage residents of all ages and skill levels to come and enjoy a game of table tennis, whether you are an experienced player or just looking for some fun.

We are lucky to have two tennis courts in Bolton-le-Sands, which are open to the public most of the time. The courts and pavilion are used by Bolton-le-Sands Tennis Club at specified times, but use is free to anyone who wants to turn up and play at other times. Thwaite Brow Woods

Thwaite Brow Woods

Thwaite Brow Wood is a scenic mixed broadleaf woodland offering stunning views across Bolton-le-Sands and northwest towards Morecambe Bay.

This peaceful natural haven is bordered by the historic Lancaster to Kendal canal, and next to it lies the Grade II-listed Lancaster Canal Bolton Cinder Oven Bridge, a reminder of the area’s rich industrial past.

The woodland itself is divided into two distinct areas: Crawstone Wood, a mid-19th-century plantation home to magnificent mature trees such as beech, oak, sycamore, and ash, and the canal-side secondary woodland, which has naturally regenerated since World War II. This diverse habitat is rich in native species, including some rare plants like Sand Leek, Spurge Laurel, and Traveller’s Joy, making it a valuable ecological treasure.

With its serene atmosphere and historical significance, Thwaite Brow Wood is a wonderful spot for nature lovers and those looking to explore the rich natural heritage of Bolton-le-Sands. It is also a high-priority area for woodland improvement under the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, ensuring its beauty and biodiversity are preserved for future generations.
